AW 5251 합금은 비열처리 합금으로, 비열처리 합금은
고용 강화 (strain-hardening) 또는 고용화 (solid solution) 에 의해

강도를 높일 수 있는 알루미늄 합금 중 한 가지입니다.
알루미늄 합금 AW 5251 과 같이 5××× 표기되는 재질은

Aluminum(Al) 에 Magnesium (Mg) nominal 2% 합금 하며
마그네슘을 합금 하는 이유는 해수에 대한 내식성이 높아지기 때문입니다.

AW 5251재질에는 Manganese (Mn) nominal 0.3% 합금 하며
망간은 내식성을 해치지 않으면서, 강도를 향상 시키기 때문입니다.

AW 5251 H22 에서 “H2″는 가공 경화 후 적절히 연화 열처리 한 것이고
“HX2” 는, 1/4 Hard Temper를 나타내는 약호 입니다.

5251 재질은 좋은 연성 (ductility), 좋은 용접성 (weldability),
좋은 성형성 (formability),특히 해양 환경에서의 내식성이 좋습니다.

AW 5251 은, 배, 선박, 해상 구조물, 항공기 부품,
식품 제조 설비 (food processing equipment) 용도로 사용됩니다.

AW 5251 은 DIN-EN Symbol 이고, Material No. 3.3525
Material Name AlMg2Mn0.3, Alloy 5251, 호칭도 있습니다.

두 종류 이상의 원소에 의해 생성되는 균질이며
고체이고, 결정질인 상.
용질 원자가 용매 원자 자리에 치환되는 치환형 고용체와
용매 원자 사이에 침입형 고용체로 구분됩니다.
금속 재료의 강화 방법 중 하나로, 금속을 강하게 만드는 종류로는

가공 경화 ; 변형 경화 (Strain hardening)
석출 경화 ; 시효 경화 (Precipitation strengthening)
결정립 미세화 (Grain refinement),
고용 강화 (Solid-solution strengthening) 등이 있습니다.
