ASTM A514 규정은 고항복강도 — 690 MPa minimum 강재로
QT 열처리 생산하고, 용접에 적합한 8가지 grade 가 있는 규정입니다.

ASTM A514 규정에는 A514 Grade S 뿐 아니라 Gr.P, Gr.H, Gr.B,
Gr.E 등의 8 Grade 가 있지만, 재질 모두 기계적 성질은 같습니다.

A514 Grade S 재질은 65t 까지만 생산 가능한 재질로 제한하고
65t 까지는 최소 항복강도 690 MPa 의 고항복강도 강재입니다.

A514 Grade S 에는 담금질 열처리성을 높여주는 Molybdenum,
공구강 합금 원소로 몰리브덴보다 경화성이 높은 Vanadium.

미량 합금만으로도 담금질 경화 열처리 효과로 강도를 높여주는 Boron,
결정립을 미세화 시켜 인성 (toughness)을 높이는 Columbium 원소 합금강입니다.

A514 Grade S 재질은 100 ksi (MPa) 고항복강도와 함께 좋은 성형성,
높은 인성이 필요한 곳에 쓰이는 구조용 합금강 강판 규격입니다.

A514 Grade 8 가지 강재는 강도로만 비교한다면, KS D 3611, SHY 685
JIS G 3128, SHY 685, EN10025-6, S690Q, S690QL/QL1 재질과 비교됩니다.

퀜칭 + 템퍼링 (담금질 + 뜨임) 열처리를 함으로서
고장력강으로서의 성질을 가지게 한 강재.

※ Toughness (인성 : 靭性)
The degree of difficulty in occurring impact breaking
because of the material’s toughness .
질기고 세며, 충격 파괴를 일으키기 어려운지, 어떤지의 정도.

※ 열처리 (Heat Treatment : 熱處理)
철강재의 전체 또는 일부에 열 사이클을 적용하여 그 성질 또는 조직을 변화 시키는
일련의 작업으로, 철강재의 화학 조성은 이러한 작업 과정으로 변할 수 있습니다.
