STC85 재질은 탄소 공구강재로 STC85 재질의 이전 KS Symbol 은 STC5 입니다.
STC85 재질은 JIS SK85 (old SK5) 재질에 대응됩니다.

탄소량 0.80~0.90 으로, 탄소량 0.85 nominal 로
Steel Tool Carbon 탄소량 0.85 에서 강재 Symbol STC85 로 정해졌습니다.

탄소량 0.60% 수준까지는 QT 열처리로 경도가 탄소량에 따라 직선적으로
증가하는 수준을 넘는 탄소량으로, 탄화물을 증가로 내마모성이 증가 됩니다.

Annealing 730~760 수준에서 서냉 하면 HBW 207 maximum,
QT 열처리 780℃ 수랭, 180℃ 공랭시 HRC 59 minimum 입니다.

STC85 재질은 높은 경도로 Spring 성능이 뛰어나지만 내식성은 없습니다.
주로 농기구, 원형 톱, 칼날, 자동차 부품, 일반 스프링 용도입니다.

※ Carbide (탄화물 : 炭化物)
Compound of metals and carbon. Their existence in steel increase abrasive
wear resistance. Elements like Cr, Mo, V, W and Fe form carbides with carbon.
Especially cold work and high speed steels are characterized by their typical
carbides. In cast tool steel the carbides can build a network, in forged or
rolled steel, they build carbide lines.

탄소와 금속의 화합물로, 탄소와 크롬, 몰리브덴, 바나듐, 텅스텐,
철과의 결합입니다. 이의 생성은 내마모성을 증가 시킵니다.
특히 고속도 공구강, 냉간용 공구강에서 특징으로 나타나며,
공구강에서는 카바이트 라인을 형성합니다.

※ 열처리 ( Heat Treatment : 熱處理)
철강재의 전체 또는 일부에 열 사이클을 적용하여 그 성질 또는 조직을 변화 시키는
일련의 작업으로, 철강재의 화학 조성은 이러한 작업 과정으로 변할 수 있습니다.

Series of operations in the course of which a solid ferrous product is totally or
or partially exposed to thermal cycles to bring about a change in its
properties and/or structure.
The chemical composition of the ferrous product may possibly be
modified during these operations.
