SCM440 강재는 크롬, 몰리브덴 합금강재입니다.
크롬과 몰리브덴은 강 (steel)에 경화성을 높여주는 원소입니다.

SCM440 크롬 1% 수준, 몰리브덴 0.22% 수준의 합금만으로도
QT 열처리시에 항복강도 834 MPa minimum 수준의 고강도입니다.

SCM440 강재는 S40C 수준의 탄소량 (nominal 0.40%)에 Cr, Mo 합금한 강재로
탄소량이 0.60% 수준까지, QT 열처리 하면 직선적으로 강도가 높아지는 재질입니다.

탄소량에 의해 높아지는 강도를 합금 원소에 의해 더욱 강도를 높인 재질이
SCM440+QT 강재라면, SCM440+N Normalizing (불림) 열처리 강재인 경우는

대개 단조강재인 경우의 열처리 방법으로, 단조에 의해 강재 내부에 쌓인
응력 (stress)를 제거해 주고, 강재의 상태를 평활하게 하는 열처리인 경우입니다.

※ Chromium (Cr : 크롬)
When used as an alloying element, chromium increases the hardenability of steel
and in association with high carbon gives resistance to wear and abrasion.
Chromium has an important effect on corrosion resistance and is present
in stainless steels in amounts of 11.5-20%.

크롬은 강에 합금 원소로 사용되며, 크롬량이 증가하면 경화성이 높아지고
고탄소강에는 내마모 성질을 부여합니다. 크롬은 스텐레스강에서 가장
중요한 원소로 11.5~20% 수준 합금 되어, 내식 성질을 부여합니다.

강의 성질을 향상 시키기 위해, 또는 소정의 성질을 구비 시키기 위해
