AMS 6409 규정은 SAE 4340, ASTM A322 E4340 재질에 대응되는 특수 항공기 강재로,
고청정, Normalized and Tempered 열처리 된, 봉강과 튜브, 단조재에 대한 규정입니다.

Low Ni-Cr-Mo 합금으로 높은 열처리성을 가지는 합금 재질로, 좋은 인성 함께
심경화 (deep-hardening)로, 기계 구조용 강재로 쓰이는 경우가 많습니다.

AMS 6409 강재는 높은 응력을 받는 부품에 사용하며, 압력용기, 피스톤,
베어링, 기어, shafts, sprockets, 항공기의 landing gears 용도입니다.

AMS 6409 강재는 열처리에 의해 최대 260 ksi (1794 MPa) 수준의
높은 인장강도가 가능한 고강도 강재이고 UNS G43406 과 대응됩니다.

※ Special Aircraft Quality Steel (특수 항공기강 : 特殊 航空機鋼)
SAQ Steel level of quality places minimum values on ductility in the transverse direction.
It is also known as “High Transverse Quality” as the steel is evaluated by the number of
tension tests normal to the direction of rolling (transverse) performed to obtain a
comprehensive sampling of a heat of steel.

※ 열처리 ( Heat Treatment : 熱處理)
철강재의 전체 또는 일부에 열 사이클을 적용하여 그 성질 또는 조직을 변화 시키는
일련의 작업으로, 철강재의 화학 조성은 이러한 작업 과정으로 변할 수 있습니다.

Series of operations in the course of which a solid ferrous product is totally or
or partially exposed to thermal cycles to bring about a change in its
properties and/or structure.
The chemical composition of the ferrous product may possibly be
modified during these operations.

※ Through-hardening (깊은 경화 : 심경화)
철강재의 표면과 중심부의 경도 차이가 없도록 경화 깊이를 크게 하는 퀜칭 경화.
