FCD450 은 구상흑연주철 (球狀黑鉛鑄鐵 : spheroidal graphite iron casting)
JIS G 5502 규정의 10가지 재질 중 한 가지 symbol  grade 입니다.

강 (steel)과 철 (iron) 의 가장 큰 차이점은 탄소량으로, 강은 탄소량 2% 이하,
철은 탄소량 2% 이상으로 크게 구분할 수 있습니다.

FCD450 재질의 탄소량은 2.5% 수준을 넘으며, 이렇게  탄소량이 높으면
재료 조직 내 흑연 발생으로, 깨지기 쉽고 (취성) 강도가 낮습니다.

또한 주조성은 좋지만, 소성 변형이 어렵지만, 내마모성이 좋은 장점이 있습니다.
FCD450 은 흑연을 구상화 한 것으로, 구상화는 재료에 강인성을 부여합니다.

※ 구상흑연 (Spheroidal graphite, Nodular graphite : 球狀黑鉛)
Graphite in a dense spheroidal stage generated in spheroidal graphite cast
iron manufactured when it is treated with magnesium or the like.
마그네슘 등으로 흑연량을 줄이고, 흑연 모양을 둥근 공 형태로 만든 주철입니다.
흑연이 구상화 되면 기계적 성질이 향상되고, 내마모성이 증가합니다.

※ Cast Iron (주철 : 鑄鐵)
Material, whose main components are iron and carbon, generally
over about 2% of carbon and other components are contained
철 중에 탄소가 2% 이상 포함된 철강재입니다.

※ Pure Iron (순철 : 純鐵)
Iron containing very little amount of carbon
and other impurity elements
Although there is no clear division of a limit of impurity elements,
the iron with carbon content rate up to about 0.02% is called pure iron.
Electrolytic iron, Armco iron, carbonyl iron, and reduced iron
are treated as pure iron.

탄소, 기타의 불순물이 매우 적은 철, 불순물의 원소의 한계에 대한
명확한 규정은 없으나, 탄소 함유량이 0.02% 정도까지를 순철이라고 부르고
전해철, 암코철, 카아보닐철, 환원철은 순철로 취급됩니다.
