MIL-S-22698 강재 규격은 미국 국방규격 재료 표준으로 강판과
형강, Bars 형상 강재로 일반 수준의 강도 뿐 아니라 고강도 강재이면서

용접을 할 수 있고, 구조재용 (structural) 재료를 말합니다.
선체 구조용 (shipbuilding)으로 쓰이는

Grade A, Grade B — 항복강도 235 MPa min. 수준
AH36, DH36, EH36 — 항복강도 355 MPa minimum의 고강도 강재이면서

MIL-S-22698 강재의 규정과 미국선급협회 ABS (American Bureau of Shipping)
규정 2가지 규정이 적용되기도 하는 Military Specification 강재입니다.

강판 뿐 아니라 환봉인 경우는 Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum 합금강재인
Alloy E4340 규격의 환봉 재료도 MIL-S-22698 규정이 적용되기도 합니다.

예를 들어 강판 규격으로 AH36 — 두께 2″ 이하인 경우
AH36T — 두께 2″ 이하이면서 Ultrasonic Test 조건인 경우

AH36TZ — 두께 2″ 이하이면서 Ultrasonic Test + 두께 방향 물성 조건으로 나뉘고
ABS 선급인증으로 EN 10204 Type 3.2 인증이 있는 강판을 말합니다.

건축, 교량, 선박, 차량, 기타의 구조물용으로서 강도 및 필요에 따라
용접성을 중시하여 제조된 강재를 말합니다.

※ Ultrasonic Test (UT : 초음파 탐상 시험)
Nondestructive testing to examine inner defects and material
quality of test body by utilizing acoustic property when
ultrasonic wave has transmitted the test body.

초음파를 시험체 중에 전달했을 때, 시험체에 나타나는
음향적 성질을 이용해, 시험체 내부의 결함이나 재질 등을
조사하는 비파괴 시험입니다.
