SA515-60 강재는 항복강도 220 MPa 수준의 높지 않은 탄소강 강판입니다.
SA36 항복강도 250 MPa minimum과 비교하면 높지 않음을 알 수 있고

SA515 series 3종류 중 가장 강도가 낮은 보일러, 압력용기용 강재입니다.
이 강재의 특징은 강재 조직이 coarse austenite grain size이고

아주 고온이 아닌 고온용으로 상온 수준에서 538℃ 수준까지 사용하는 강재입니다.
SA516 강재의 저온 -46℃ CVN Impact Test 조건이 있는 저온용 강재와 구별됩니다.

SA515 강재 사용 온도보다 더 높은 온도의 환경이라면 크롬을 합금한 A387 규격
강재를 사용해야 하며, A387 강재의 경우 649℃ 수준까지 사용 범위이고 이보다도

더 높은 온도인 경우는 스테인리스나, 니켈 합금과 같은 고 합금 강재를 사용해야 합니다.
SA515-60 강재는 탄소강이므로 스테인리스나 고 합금 재료처럼 내식성이 담보되지 않습니다.

※ Coarse grained steel
Steel with an austenite grain size number is up to 5.
오스테나이트 결정입도 번호가 5 미만인 강을 말합니다.

※ Grain size (결정립 크기)
Grain size is normally quantified by a numbering system. Coarse 1-5 and Fine 5-8.
Grain size has an important effect on physical properties. It is generally considered
that fine grain steels have a better combination of strength and toughness,
whereas coarse grain steel have better machinability.

결정립 (結晶粒) 크기는 입도 번호 (粒度番號)로 분류하며 입도 번호 1-5 는 Coarse (조립강 粗粒鋼)
입도 번호 size≥6 는 Fine (세립강 : 細粒鋼) 이라고 부르고, 결정립 (結晶粒) 크기는 물성에
상당히 중요하며, 세립강은 강도와 인성에서 조립강은 기계 가공성에서 상대적으로 우수합니다.

※ Grain (結晶粒 : 결정립)
Unit cells which are the smallest building blocks of material create
grains by coming together from different orientations.
Steel with a small grain size (high number of ASTM E112 standard)
has a high tensile strength and a good toughness.

재료의 가장 작은 요소인 셀은 서로 다른 방향에서 모여 알갱이 (結晶粒)을
만들고, 이 알갱이의 크기가 작을수록 더 높은 강도와 인성을 가집니다.
