STS420J2 재질은 열처리로 강도를 높일 수 있는 마르텐사이트 스테인리스입니다.
판재의 경우는 대부분 Annealed 조건으로 공급되며, 환봉의 경우도 마찬가지이지만

수요가가 원하는 경우 +QT 조건의 환봉 공급이 있을 수 있습니다.
STS420J2 강재 Annealed 조건에서는 항복강도 225 MPa minimum으로

STS304 — 205 MPa minimum 으로, 10% 수준 높은 강도이고
탄소량이 0.26~0.40 수준으로 304 — 0.08% maximum 보다 높아 용접이 어렵습니다.

용접성을 감안하면 STS420J2 보다 탄소량이 적은 STS420J1 — 0.16~0.25% 탄소량의
재질이 있으며, 기계적 성질에서는 탄소량 차이로 약간 낮은 수준입니다.

STS420J2 강재는 주문시 특별히 열처리 요청이 있어야 하며 이럴 경우 STS420J2+Q로
표기하고 Q : 980~1040℃ 급랭, T : 150~400℃ 공랭의 규정입니다.

※ 열처리( Heat Treatment : 熱處理)
철강재의 전체 또는 일부에 열 사이클을 적용하여 그 성질 또는 조직을 변화 시키는
일련의 작업으로, 철강재의 화학 조성은 이러한 작업 과정으로 변할 수 있습니다.

or partially exposed to thermal cycles to bring about a change in its
properties and/or structure.
The chemical composition of the ferrous product may possibly be
modified during these operations.

※ Martensite (마르텐자이트)
체심 정방체 (BCC) 구조를 가지는 준안정 고용체를 말합니다.
이것은 오스테나이트가 확산 기구가 아닌 방법으로 변태 되어 형성됩니다.
마르텐자이트는 담금질강재의 구조입니다.
탄소와 철의 합금으로 담금질을 할 때 생기는 높은 강도의 조직으로
단단하지만 취약하고 깨지기 쉬우며, 세멘타이트보다는 경도가 낮습니다.

Metastable solid solution with a body-centred tetragonal crystal or a
body-centered cubic crystal having the same chemical composition
as that of the original austenite.
It is formed at a temperature of point Ms or lower by the transformation
of austenite without diffusional mechanism.
Martensite is sometimes produced by plastic deformation of austenite.
Martensite is the structure in quenched steel.
