기계 구조용 강재는 철강사에서
열간 생산 후 보통 사용할 때는

단조, 절삭, 인발 등의 가공과 Normalizing, Tempering, Quenching,
열처리를 단독으로 또는 복합 열처리를 해서 사용자가 원하는 수준의

기계적 성질을 확보한 후 기계 부품으로 사용하는 경우가 많은 강재 입니다.
인체는 뼈라는 구조를 가지고 있고

고래도 사자도 뼈라는 구조를 가지고 있습니다.
건축물, 선박, 기계, 교량 모두 구조체이고

구조체는 높은 강도와 다른 재료 대비 낮은 비용으로 조달이 가능한
철강재와 금속 재료로 구성되어 있습니다.

금속 재료도 스테인레스처럼 녹이 슬지 않으면서
탄소 구조강에 뒤쳐지지 않는 높은 강도를 가지지만

높은 가격으로, 마음껏 쓰기에는 부담스런 강재입니다.
다른 합금강재와 특수강 강재도

탄소강과 비교해 훨씬 높은 강도를 가지지만
합금강재에 합금 되는 합금 원소의 높은 가격으로

마음껏 사용하기에 상당히 부담스러운 강재 들입니다.
탄소강은 부식 (Corrosion)이라는 태생적 한계가 있지만

경제성에서 뛰어나, ASTM, ASME, DIN EN, KS, JIS 등
많은 국가 관리 Standard와 국가 Standard보다 더한 권위를 자랑하는

단체, 협회 규격에서,
구조강에 대한 많은 규격이 존재합니다.

※ N : Normalizing — Heat treatment consisting of austenitizing followed by air cooling.
The purposes of this operation are to eliminate the influence of pre-working,

improve their mechanical properties.

※ TMCP — A generic term for manufacturing methods carrying out air cooling or enforced
controlled cooling subsequent to the main process of controlled rolling.
It includes the thermo-mechanical rolling and accelerated rolling,
but not when it is classical controlled rolling alone.

※ Quenching — Operation which consists of cooling a ferrous products more rapidly then in still air.
The use of a term specifying the cooling condition is recommended,
for example air-blast quenching, water  quenching, step quenching, etc.
※ Tempering — Heat treatment applied to a ferrous product, generally after quench hardening, or
another heat treatment  to bring the properties to the required level, and consisting of heating

to specific temperature (＜Ac1 )and soaking one or more time,
following by cooling at an appropriate rate,

Tempering generally leads to a reduction in hardness but can, in certain cases, cause an
increase in hardness(refer to secondary hardening.
※ Annealing — Heat treatment consisting of heating and soaking at a suitable temperature followed
by cooling under conditions  such that, after return to ambient temperature, the metal will be
in a structural state closer to that of equilibrium
※ AR — As Rolled — No heat treatment
※ CR — Controlled Rolling
