JIS G 3201 규정은 일본 산업 규격 탄소강이면서 탄조강에 대한 규정입니다.
이 규정 안에 SF440A를 포함해 6 종류의 강재가 인장강도별 구분되어 있습니다.

SF440A 재질은 SF — Steel Forging, 440 — 인장강도 440 MPa minimum
A — 충격 시험이 없는 경우의 약호이고, SF440B 강재처럼 B인 경우는 충격 시험이 있습니다.

SF440A 재질의 이전 기호는 SF45A 재질이고, KS 재질과 대응됩니다.
단조강이기에 Annealed, Normalized 또는 NT 조건의 열처리가 있습니다.

SF440A 강재의 경우는 위의 3가지 조건 열처리 중 선택 사항이지만
SF540B, SF590B, SF640B 강재의 경우는 QT 열처리 조건도 있습니다.

단조강은 생산 과정이 강재를 타격해서 형상을 원형, 봉, 디스크, 다면체로 바꾸는
과정에서 응력이 고르지 못하므로, 열처리 과정으로 응력을 골고루 분산 시킬 필요가 있습니다.

※ 열처리( Heat Treatment : 熱處理)
철강재의 전체 또는 일부에 열 사이클을 적용하여 그 성질 또는 조직을 변화 시키는
일련의 작업으로, 철강재의 화학 조성은 이러한 작업 과정으로 변할 수 있습니다.

properties and/or structure.
The chemical composition of the ferrous product may possibly be
modified during these operations.

※ Forging effect (鍛造效果 : 단조효과)
The degree of the size of deformation by the operation of forging
It is generally presented by appending the symbol of operation
type to the ratio of the cross-sectional area before forging to the
sectional area after finishing forging.

단조의 목적 (성형과 재질 개선)의 하나인 재질의 강인화를 위함입니다.
일반적으로 단련 성형비나 기계적 성질로 나타낸다.
