STS303 재질은 쾌삭 (free cutting) 오스테나이트 스텐레스입니다.
강도 면에서는 같은 Austenite STS304, STS316 재질과 같지만

Phosphorus (P : 燐)과 특히 Sulfur (S : 黃) 함량이 다른 오스테나이트 보다
훨씬 높아, 적어도 0.15% 이상의 높은 황 합금량입니다.

황 (Sulfur)은 강 (steel)에서는 비금속 개재물인 불순물로, 황을 가급적 낮게 관리하는
원소이지만, SUS303 에서는 쾌삭 성질 확보를 목적으로 고의로 높게 합금 했습니다.

또한 황은 내식성을 해치는 원소로, STS303 재질은 STS304 보다 내식성에서
떨어지며, 쾌삭성이 요구되는 fasteners, 볼트, 너트, 사프트 용도로 사용됩니다.

※ Sulfur (S : 황)
In amounts of 0.06 to 0.3%, increases machinability.
It is not recommended for alloys used in hot forming.
It decreases weldability and ductility.

황 원소는 0.06~0.3% 수준의 합금으로, 절삭성을 높여 주지만
열간 압연 강재에는 사용치 않으며, 용접성과 연성을 해치는 원소입니다.

※ Free cutting steels (Resulfurized : 쾌삭강, 快削鋼) — JIS
Steels to which free cutting properties is improved by
individual or combined addition of phosphorus (P), sulfur (S),
lead (Pb), selenium (Se), tellurium (Te), calcium (Ca), etc.

인, 황, 납, 셀레늄, 텔루륨, 칼슘 등을 단독 또는 복합으로
첨가하여, 피삭성을 높인 강.

※ Non-metallic inclusion (비금속 개재물 : 非金屬介在物)
Non-metallic inclusion precipitated or dragged into a steel in solidifying of steel
The inclusions are examined by macro-structure examination andmicro-structure
examination and the inclusions of the former are defined as non-metallic are
defined as non-metallic inclusions visible with naked eyes.

강의 응고 과정에서 강 안에 석출 또는 혼입 되어 들어가는 비금속성의 개재물로
매크로 조직 시험으로 조사하는데, 앞에서 말한 개재물이란 육안으로 인지 되는
비금속 개재물을 말합니다.
